Spring Equinox 2021: Winds of Change

Spring in the Northern Hemisphere begins on Saturday, 02:37 PDT. Equinox may arrive, but planetary energies will not necessarily be conducive to equanimity.

Saturn – representing structure and tradition - is square to Uranus, the planet of chaos and innovation. Their square will continue through most of 2021 and activates a tension between these energies -- a butting of planetary heads.

The conflicts we lived through in 2020 continue to provide pressure, though perhaps in a less combative way. The good news is that the dynamic energies in the cosmos can support movement toward evolutionary change — innovation and structure integrating into new form.

What we are swirling inside of — the chaos of countless polarizing positions — are the old structures holding on as the new make way toward the light. Transformational change is essential for a more just and equitable world. Yet the current forms of airing differences — shouting matches and battles — feel like part of the old ‘power over’ paradigm, and don’t seem to be effective in creating lasting change. By using force we may inadvertently increase resistance to change; heels dig in.

I am curious about a third way.

Might it be possible to find movement between opposing views by suspending positions in favor of inquiry?

How might we disengage from the ‘right versus wrong’ conversation in a way that truly allows for movement toward sustainable progress?

How might we support and share what we deeply care about without making someone else wrong?

How might we invest our energy in life?

Spring brings the opportunity to decide which seeds we want to nourish. How will we engage in shaping our evolving world?

I am meeting this moment by committing to support those who have been marginalized in the conversation.  One small step I am taking is to mentor young women as they find their calling and their voices, by volunteering my time to them. It is a personally fulfilling way of sharing what I have learned on my own path and one way I contribute to the evolutionary moment.

As I mentor I listen deeply to not only assess how I can provide support, but also to learn how the world looks and feels to those inheriting it. Together we learn how to move into uncharted waters, developing new structures and capacities to support the change we seek. We listen to and learn from one another — a beautiful integration of past and future sourced in the present.

And so it unfolds. May we have the wisdom, courage, and humility to discover a new way toward our desired future.
